They were on the top of a mountain where they had begun a three hundred and fifty foot rock cut that contained 4.5 million cubic yards of material that had to be removed. There were lots of shots of blasting, and bulldozers, and heavy earth-moving equipment.

About the Memoir

Wandering in Oblivion is a son's journey along the dark shores of memory, as he scavenges for meaning to his mother's tormented schizophrenic life. Discovering in the end, that her courage - forged from the relentless illness - might be her greatest gift to him.

If someone you know is struggling to deal with a loved one suffering with schizophrenia or other mental illness, the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is available to provide support, education and awareness. They are a valuable resource and have many local chapters that are "dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness."
